When we started farming, I remember reading about “grass” farmers. Those who felt their primary role was maintaining the health of their pasture, as all their animals lived off the grass. Some days, around here, I think we’re fence farmers. Being blessed with a small four acres means you have to make due with what you’ve got. That means moving animals a bit and doubling or tripling up the use. Sheep first, then move pigs over it, then get the chickens to clean up and finally everybody’s off for a spell before starting over.
