Treehouse!

Without a lot of posts, you can be sure it's been a busy summer. But amongst many other things, we've taken on care of two kids this summer, with the expectation that we'll adopt them once the state signs off on us. Part of our new responsibilities is realizing how important making spaces just for the kids is.

To that end, we've put some effort into building a treehouse. Having a fairly sparse 1/4 acre of oak woods on our property, the only thing you could really do besides plane or burn the trees is to build a treehouse. It's a three-tree house, with one small one and two large trees. The platform, which we finished on Sunday, only rests on supports screwed into the smaller tree. The whole thing is quite stable.

The first night we got quite a rain and wind storm that put the platform through it's paces. Though it squeaks a lot, it hasn't sheared the screws yet. So here's hoping it stays stable enough for us to put the second floor/roof up.

Our idea is to build a similar platform above the first one, with a door in the floor and a screened in space above for sleeping. It's going to rock.
